New Spain Exhibit in Tallahassee! Ponce de León and the Fountain of Youth

     The Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee will host, "Imagining La Florida: Ponce de León and the Quest for the Fountain of Youth".    The exhibit is organized by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) of Spain and the Spain-Florida Foundation in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the Spanish Consulate in Miami

     From the Museum's website:

          "This interactive exhibit takes advantage of contemporary technology to help visitors explore Florida’s early history through the lens of the Spanish explorers," said Secretary Detzner. "It recounts the dangers explorers risked and tells the story of Florida’s early history in an engaging four-part exhibit."

     The opening ceremony is November 13; the exhibit will run from November 14 to February 13, 2014.  Admission and parking are FREE!

      500 Years ago, Juan Ponce de León set sail from Puerto Rico to ultimately land in Florida.  Ponce de León was a Soldier, a Governor, an explorer, a Conquistador, and the Discoverer of Florida!

Fred what a nice picture of Ponce De Leon who found the fountain of youth. I heard a story about that as a kid and your blog reminded me of something I had forgotten for a long time.

Ah, yes, the coming of the white man with his diseases and search for gold. My masters is in history, so I know the story well.

Noah - Ponce de Leon is a Hero to us in Florida.  I live in "Leon" County, named after the great sailor.

     My European ancestors didn't just bring diseases... we brought hospitals, vaccinations, medicine, surgery, organ transplants, robotic limbs for amputees, and other healing that is considered miraculous by 3rd and 4th World standards.  Plus automobiles and airplanes and light bulbs and air conditioning...
