"What We've Got Here Is... Failure to Communicate!"

"What we've got here is Failure to Communicate!  Some men you just can't reach!"  The immortal line spoken by the prison captain in "Cool Hand Luke" applies to many Real Estate Agents!

How do you feel when someone fails to return your telephone calls?

What about you - do you answer your telephone when it rings?

Is your phone number easy to find?

I used this same line today! The buyer's agent for one of my short sales has been AWOL for over a week. Too bad for her clients, the bank is ready to ditch them and go with another offer!

Fred  How true.  I've got a big ego and I like to ask clients how they found me.  My current client responded "You answered the phone"!  They are looking at the $300,000 price range and ready to buy.  Regretfully, that is a common problem in my neck of the woods.  Thanks for bringing this one to our attention.

I find too many agents seem to go awol.. I try to let folks know how to reach me and when I will be available.  If I'm at an inspection or out on showings, I let clients know when I will be available.

Doug - that Agent loses a sale for his Buyers, and a commission for herself.  Makes no sense!

John -  It's sad that an Agent would lose a potential $300K Client, because they don't answer the phone!

Agreed, Joan - let people know where you are; or at least return the call promptly!

Thank you, Marti !

Fred, Perhaps one of my all time favorite movie lines.  And it applies to Corporate America just as well as real estate :)  Bill

I so agree with this post. If you do not reach the person, a message is just not enough. YOu have to talk to them to make sure that you have communicated. Take the extra steps to ensure that you have done that.

Fred, when I started a local blog back in the summer months last year I had it up a week before I realized I didn't have my phone number on it.  Oops!  Have a great New Year.

One of my pet ppeeves is when you get to an agent website and there is no direct phone or e-mail

So true!!! When I have to leave a voice mail, then I send a email, if no response to the email, I send a fax.... as a mortgage loan originator, we have a correspondant tab in our LOS so I document every attempt... if all else fails, then its on them...

Happy New Year!!!

For those of us on AR, we're all probably in the 1% of practicing real estate competently.  It's the remaining 99% of agents that need to read this!

Fred, little late - but it finally arrived on Daily Drop - congrats.

And so true for many of us, we act like a secret agent....( and I am not an exception for some of them...)

Fred:  I have another professional I'm trying to reach, but never can connect in a live call.  Just leaving messages is getting old.  Yet ironically, this very professional complains about others never returning their calls.  Hmmmm ... Very frustrating when this happens continually ...

Returning phone calls is so old-fashioned yet so refreshing.

It is such a simple thing. More importantly, it is such a basic part of this business.

My phone number is on everything I send out (including my email signature) so it's easy for someone to find me.  I also have contact information on my blog and website.  If someone needs to find me, they can.

That is one of my biggest frustrations. .agents that have no email signatures. .

Your phone number should be everywhere. . even here on your Blog Header!

Kwee!  Happy New Year to you!   Please see my blog about my Buick, there are a couple of nice "Venice" pictures that I took in 2010.

Bill - True!

Ginger - thanks for the Reblog!

Mike - Groan!  I cringe when I make a mistake like that.

Erica - Agreed!  "Contact Me" including phone number should be easy to find on a Website.  It should not be hidden and hard to find.

Cara - Documentation is everything.  Happy New Year to you!

Hi, Carla  I am preaching to the Choir, LOL!

Praful - "Secret Agent" was a great TV Show from the Sixties.  It is NOT the way to practice Real Estate!

Paddy - my sentiments exactly!

Gene - IMHO such behavior is unprofessional, perhaps even a character flaw.

Michelle  Old Fashioned indeed - 1876 to be precise!   Salute to Alexander Graham Bell.

Debbie - thank Goodness for Voice Mail!   It gives us a second chance to take that call.

Gary - Business 101!  Regrettably, a lot of people flunked this class.

Michael    It is so fundamental - why don't some people get this?

Bryan - you are on it!

Fernando - Agreed!

In all walks of life, communication is vital and essential. Without it, things will never get right. It should be exercised correctly especially in business. Otherwise, you would end up regretting for missing the chance to communicate a potential client.
